Wakefield & District Sunday Football League (Division Two)

Wakefield Athletic “A” ………………………………..……….………… 0
Hemsworth MW Reserves ………………………………........... 7
Striker Steve Oakes hit a fine hat-trick as Hemsworth MW Reserves ran riot against a youthful Wakefield Athletic second string in this Division Two fixture.
The home side made a good start with both Steve Draper (header) and Dave Markwell going close before at the other end stand-in keeper Chris Riley came to his sides rescue with a point-blank save.
The visitors looked dangerous on the counter-break and took the lead against the run of play when a poor clearance proved costly with Oakes claiming a simple goal.
Wakefield retaliated and saw Kevin Guy and Dave Markwell force good stops from the visiting keeper before Sam Murphy was denied an equaliser with his effort hitting the woodwork. Home skipper
Tom Pick had a goal bound effort cleared off the line before a sucker punch on the stroke of half-time saw Dave Green make it 2-0 with a lob over the advancing keeper.
The home side were forced to play another outfield player Matt Fenlon in goal on the turn and his mistake in the 55th minute saw Wakefield trail by 3-0.  Hemsworth stepped up the pace and saw them
score three quick-fire goals through Jimmy Mullin (2) and Liam Radford.Wakefield to their credit battled gallantly to the end against their vastly experienced opposition and saw both Sam Murphy and
Kevin Guy go close before teenager Oliver Bartholomew hit the woodwork but Hemsworth had the last word with a goal in the dying minute through Oakes for his hat-trick.
The West Yorkshire Sports & Social Club man-of the man award for Wakefield athletic was shared by Steve Draper, Dave Markwell and Sam Murphy.
