Wakefield & District Sunday Football League (Division Two)
Wakefield Athletic "A" ---------------------------------- 2
Walton S&S ------------------------------------------- 3
A goal in injury-time from Daz Crawcroft earned Walton S&S a close victory over Wakefield Athletics' second string in this Division Two fixture.
Wakefield made a promising start and saw Omar Sanyang put Simon Newey through with a back-heeked pass only to be foiled on the line.
At the other end, stand-in keeper Phil Killey came to his sides rescue with a point-blank save to deny Walton a goal in the 20th minute.
The home side took a deserved lead with an outstanding strike form Sanyang from well over 40 yards. The visitors drew level with a goal from Matthew Marsden following a melee from a disputed throw-in.
On the turn, Walton took the lead for the first time in the 47th minute through a simple tap-in goal from Crawcroft. Wakefield introduced Gavin Heppinstall and Oliver Bartholomew and forced the pace.
Newey and Badjie went close before Heppinstall equalised from a Badjie right-flank corner. The game went end to end before it boiled over to the point of abandonment which was avoided - the game was not manned by an offical referee due to shortage of ref's on the day. The distraction proved costly with the visitors sealing victory at the death with a deflected block from David Markwell presenting Crawcroft a last-gasp winner.
The West Yorkshire Sports & Social man-of-the match award for Wakefield Athletic "A" was shared by Lamin Conteh, David Markwell and Tom Pick.
