A Liam Hughes double saw Wakefield Athletics' second string swept aside in blustery conditions at the hands of Field Lane in this return Division Two fixture.

Wakefield made a good start against the wind with Sam Murphy and Adam Deakin posting early threats. However, Owen Sharp gave the home side the lead in the 13th minute with a 30 yard wind-assisted screamer before a header from Hughes following a long-throw two minutes later saw Field Lane surge into a 2-0 lead.

The home side took control and forced the visitors custodial Tom Salter into a string of saves before a short-corner caught Wakefield out with Hughes grabbing his brace with a headed effort.

Wakefield clawed back on the stroke of half-time with a surging run and cross from Oliver Bartholomew finding Simon Newey who hit a low drive on tatger to make it 3-1.

The second period was a tight affair with chances at both ends before a late break-away goal from Domonic Finneghan gave the home side a deserved victory.

The West Yorkshire Sports & Social Clubs man-of-the match award for Wakefield Athletic "A" was shared by David Markwell, Matt Fenlon and Tom Pick.
