Wakefield & District Sunday Football League

Big kick-off

Wakefield & District Sunday Football League kicks-off next Sunday with 25 matches in the opening day of the season.

The League will comprise of five divisions consisting of eleven teams respectively.  Teams that have dropped out of the league include King George (Premier Division), Altofts (Division One), Hemsworth United Reserves (Division Two) and Ackworth Brown Cow (Division Four).  Newcomers include Crofton Colts Reserves and Real Carlton who will both play in Division Four.

No more than eight teams have changed their names.  They are as follows:

Horse & Jockey (previously Poplar)
AFC Judco Crown (Crown)
Maypole FC, Ossett (Two Brewers Rovers)
Kingsly Hotel (Hemsworth MW Reserves)
Travellers (Stanley Travellers)
The Whistler (Horse & Jockey, Ossett)
AFC Clothiers (Wanderers)
Bay Horse (Flanshaw Albion)

Predictions for the title aspirations for the respective five divisions are as follows:

Premier Division: Redoubt who have won the title for eight consecutive seasons remain the favourites for the title with old foes, Little Bull as their main threat. Hemsworth MW and Shepherds Arms are both deemed as dark horses.

Division One:  Nostell MW and Stanley United are joint favourites for the title with Horbury WMC as their main threat.

Division Two:  King George have the edge with a wealth of experience but both the second strings of Hemsworth MW and Shepherds Arms  as their main challengers.

Division Three:  Wakefield North West with the Kamara brothers at the helm are firm title contenders with both Tingley Bulls and Carlton Athletic giving them a run for their money for the title.

Division Four: Newcomers Real Carlton from Pontefract come with high reviews and should have the edge over their nearest challengers - a much improved Crown Scissett.  Ship Inn could provide a veil threat.
