Friendlies Week 3
Wakefield Athletic FC continued their pre-season preparation with two games over the bank holiday weekend with two victories.
The first team fielding six fringe players registered a 4-1 away victory away at the Walnut Tree. Defender Tom Pick and midfielder Robert Watson gave Wakefield a 2-0 lead before Matthew Hazlegrave pulled a goal back for the home side.
Substitute Sikander Ibrahim and Oliver Bartholomew added further goals on the turn for a well-worked victory.
A combined second and third string made hard work of their 4-2 away success as Stanley Travellers.
New comer Simon Bentley scored in majestic fashion to give Wakefield a deserved lead before Shahnoor Qayum gave his side a 2-0 half-time lead.
Goals on the turn from Michael Wood and Simon Bentley (his brace) saw Wakefield Athletic surge into a 4-0 lead but a late recovery by the home side saw them score twice through Tom Fowley and Andrew Jones before Wakefield held on for victory.
**** Wakefield Athletic conclude their pre-season preparation next Sunday 31st August.
***The first team and their "A" team take part in a four team "Round-Robin" tournament which was cancelled earlier in the month due to the heavy rain and waterlogged pitches. FC Sandal and FC Crooked Billet (Leeds) will make up the four team tournament.
**The "Silver Jubilee Cup" sponsored by Frank & Val Jewson of Wrenthorpe will be awarded to the winners of the above tournament to mark the 25th Anniversary of Wakefield Athletic Football Club.
*Wakefield Athletic "B" will be hosted by Walnut Tree in their last pre-season friendly.
