Striker Scott Everett hit five goals as Wakefield Athletic registered a well-worked victory over Wagon in this return Division One fixture at Thornes Park.
The visitors made a good start with the midfield trio of Mark Tallant, Craig Smith and Andrew Whelan taking early control in the middle of the park before they opened their account when a cross from Shazad Fiaz was headed on target by the diminutive front man Scott Everett.
A flowing move involving Lee Everett, Luke Crossley and Whelan ended with skipper Danny Barnes slotting home the second before a double-blast from Scott Everett saw him complete a fine first-half hat-trick to make it 4-0.
Wagon were more purposeful on the turn and forced the visitors on the back foot and pulled a goal back through a spot-kick from Gareth White.
Gavin Bell, Warren Saxton, Lee Everett and Shazad Fiaz were forced to defend stoutly to stem the home sides sustained pressure spell before Mike Bell and Craig Smith linked up well to provide Scott Everett his fourth goal of the match.
Wagon responded immediately with a wonder strike from Beddows befoer another flowing move involving Crossley, Tallant and Barnes created an opening for Scott Everett whose clinical finish saw him take his goal haul to five goals in the match.
The Express man-of-the match award for Wakefield Athletic was shared by Scott Everett, Shazad Fiaz and Andrew Whelan.
