Wakefield & District Sunday Football League (Division 1)

Wakefield Athletic ....................................... 4
Nightingale ...................................................... 4

A late spot-kick goal from player-manager Iso Budimir earned Wakefield Athletic a valuable point against Nightingale in this Division One league fixture.

The home side gifted the visitors a goal after only 15 seconds when a poor back pass saw keeper Anthony Whiteside's hurried clearance blocked by the on-rushing Scott Cawthorn and the deflection ended on target.

This shock spurred the Wakefield outfit to up their game with the midfield trio of Craig Smith, Mark Tallant and Andrew Whelan dictating the pace of the game in the middle of the park.

Wakefield equalised after some good work by David Bartholomew ended with skipper Danny Barnes finding target from close range and the same player scored with a cool headed goal from a Luke Crossland's well placed corner.

Minutes later, a flowing move between Warren Saxon, Craig Smith and Luke Crossley ended with defender Gavin Bell tower over the visiting defence to head home and give Wakefield a 3-1 half-time lead.

Nightingale started the stronger on the turn and soon reduced the deficit when Steve Wilson reacted swiftly to a loose ball off the foot of the post to steer the ball on target.  The visitors stepped up their play and were rewarded with a close range effort from Daniel Duce make it 3-3.

Chris Renshaw hit a opportunist goal to give Nightingale a 4-3 lead and looked to have stolen the game but a surging run from defender Warren Saxon was halted in the danger-zone and saw Iso Budimir hit the spot-kick on target to rescue a point for the home side in the dying minute.

Andrew Kitchen and Steve Wilson excelled for Nightingale whilst the Express man-of the match for Wakefield Athletic was shared by David Bartholomew, Mark Tallant and Danny Barnes.
